Monday Afternoon News Bite

NPR’s food blog, The Salt, ran a story this weekend about African-American culinary history, “Beyond ‘Aunt Jemima’: A Taste Of African-American Culinary Heritage.” Certainly, this is a topic we’ve touched on before!   1. Haha – I had smoked pork jowl and fried corn meal mush for breakfast. And my family hailed from the Midwest. These days I have to special-order the pork jowls…local stores no longer carry them. I buy a case and freeze them to last a good long while. But there is NO BETTER bacon!
